If there is one thing about land surveys that you have to know of, that would be the fact that they existed way back to the time when people started realizing the importance of holding their own land. There were lots of land surveying tools created and used for the purpose of measuring the land of the owners so that they will know how big or how small they land is and also, for them to know the boundary of their property. But then again, these land surveying tools went out of fashion for quite some time until they came back again during the middle age. Then reason behind why land surveying tools were brought back is because of the renewed interest of land owners to hold their land, not to mention that they want to know as well how much they had and to make sure that there was no on one land that they owned.
You may not know about this but many of the land surveying equipments and tools being used today for land surveys are very similar to the once used centuries ago, with the some great and amazing upgrades, that is. With the age of modernization and technology in the middle of its zenith, these equipments are going through some drastic changes, and of course, the computer is the one responsible for reforming this industry.
Since this article will tackle about the equipments being used for land surveys in the past and the present, we will now start introducing each one to you, with theodolite, one of the most commonly used and most popular tool, as the first one in our list. Even as recent as ten years ago, the theodolite, regardless of the fact that they were more technologically advanced, were still being used for the purpose of conducting a wide variety of surveys. But of course, as time goes one, there really are changes bound to happen and as for theodolite, one of the biggest improvements befalls it is how it was made electronic. Since theodolite was made electronic, its name was changed from theodolite to EDM or electronic measurement device or the what we call as total stations.
The next land surveying equipment we will be presenting to you here is the GPS surveying and this particular type of tools is included in the tools that brought the industry into the age of computers. Speaking of GPS, this is an acronym that stands for Global Positioning System and is using satellite technology to do land surveying.
